As electric vehicles continue to gain traction in the Philippines, questions remain around their ability to go beyond city driving.
VinFast Philippines addressed this through a recent two-day test drive, where the VinFast VF6 demonstrated its performance, efficiency, and practicality across real-world road conditions.
Mounted from April 16 to 17, the VinFast VF6 Test Drive brought together media outlets and key opinion leaders (KOLs), giving close to 60 participants the opportunity to experience the vehicle from VinFast Caloocan to Lakehall at Nena’s Sanctuary in Laguna. Spanning city roads, expressways, and traffic-heavy conditions via Skyway and SLEX, the drive was designed to reflect how Filipinos actually move—daily commutes, long drives, and everything in between.
Built for Real-World Driving, Not Just the City
Rather than a controlled demonstration, the test drive was designed to reflect how Filipinos actually drive—combining city traffic, expressway cruising, and long-haul conditions across the route from Caloocan to Laguna.
Different segments of the drive allowed participants to engage key features of the VF6 in context. Along the Skyway, drivers were able to activate adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and highway assist, enabling smoother, more controlled driving even at higher speeds. These features reduced driver fatigue while maintaining consistent speed and lane positioning over extended stretches.
As the convoy transitioned into SLEX and more congested areas, traffic jam assist and responsive braking systems came into play, helping drivers navigate stop-and-go conditions with greater ease. The shift between open roads and heavy traffic highlighted the VF6’s ability to adapt seamlessly, maintaining both performance and control across varying environments.
By integrating these features into real driving scenarios, the experience reinforced that the VF6 is built not only for city commutes, but for the full range of everyday driving conditions in the Philippines.
Performance and Efficiency That Work Together
What stood out throughout the drive was the VF6’s ability to deliver consistent power while maintaining energy efficiency. Equipped with a 210-horsepower electric motor, the vehicle provided smooth and responsive acceleration, allowing drivers to navigate traffic and overtake with confidence while maintaining stability across changing road conditions.
This balance was further reflected in an internal, unofficial test run conducted under similar real-world conditions. With an average of three to four passengers per vehicle, the VF6 traveled approximately 70 to 80 kilometers from Caloocan to Lakehall in Laguna. Units began the drive with an average battery level of around 69% and arrived with approximately 57% remaining charge—demonstrating efficient energy consumption even with variations in driving style, passenger load, air conditioning use, and performance modes.
At the same time, battery performance remained steady across multiple runs, reinforcing the VF6’s capability to handle both daily commutes and longer drives without the need for constant charging. Even with real-world variables at play, the vehicle maintained a consistent and manageable rate of consumption, supporting its practicality for everyday use.
Charging further supports this practicality. The VF6 can charge from 10% to 70% in approximately 25 minutes, with VinFast estimating a full charge at under ₱900 and running costs at around ₱1.95 per kilometer, offering a more accessible and manageable approach to EV ownership.
Designed for Confidence, Comfort, and Everyday Use
Beyond performance, the VF6 is built to make electric driving more intuitive and accessible. Its quiet operation, seamless acceleration, and user-friendly interface make it easy to adapt to, even for drivers experiencing an EV for the first time. Media and KOL participants noted the smooth and refined driving experience, highlighting how quickly they were able to feel comfortable behind the wheel.
A suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) further enhances confidence on the road. Features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and a 360-degree camera were tested across different segments of the drive, helping drivers navigate both high-speed expressways and tight urban spaces with greater ease. Safety technologies including blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking provide an added layer of protection, supporting a more secure driving experience.
Inside, the VF6 combines functionality with connectivity. A 12.9-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with multiple smart features, ensures that drivers remain connected and in control throughout their journey.
A Practical EV for Everyday Filipino Driving
The VF6 ultimately makes a strong case for electric vehicles as a practical, everyday solution. With a driving range of up to 480 kilometers (NEDC), it is capable of supporting not just short city trips, but also longer drives across key routes. More importantly, the recent test drive demonstrated that this capability holds up under real-world conditions where traffic, road variability, and driver behavior all come into play.
By combining performance, efficiency, and ease of use, the VF6 addresses many of the common concerns surrounding EV adoption. It shows that drivers do not need to sacrifice power for efficiency, nor convenience for sustainability. Instead, it offers a balanced approach that aligns with how Filipinos actually drive.
