Seven-time world champion as spare tyre? Not!

Michael Schumacher has turned down an offer from Lotus to come out of retirement and drive in the final two races of the season to replace the injured Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen’s place will now be filled by fellow Finn Heikki Kovalainen, according to the Press Association. If you remember, Schumacher retired in 2006 after a decade with Ferrari, but made a comeback with Mercedes in 2010. The German retired again at the end of last season, making way for Lewis Hamilton.

SEEN @ SEMA: TRUCK NATION

They say U.S. is the land of the pickup truck. For years, the two best-selling vehicles in this country have routinely been the Ford F-Series pickup and its rival, the Chevrolet Silverado. Naturally the aftermarket is there to …follow. It’s no surprise then the pickup trucks make up a huge part of the SEMA Show every year, where it seems like more than half of the vehicles on display are a pickup of some sort. Many of the trucks shown at SEMA are gigantic beasts with outrageous lift kits, like this one.

NO IT’S NOT THE WRONG PAGE – We’re featuring the “supercar” of furniture

Furniture-maker John & Table has recently unveiled their Race table, made of carbon fiber and trimmed in leather and Alcantara. So it does have something in common with quite a few high-end performance cars. It also features a price tag worthy of a Lamborghini. The Race costs 38,800 euros, or about $52,209 at current exchange rates and–unlike an Aventador–it probably won’t offer much more performance than its mainstream counterpart.

HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND: U.S. Grand Prix

They say that the Circuit of the Americas, located in Austin, Texas is a great example of a new grand prix track gone right. It has a number of stand-out features that combine to make it arguably the best of the new tracks that have been built by Formula 1’s in-house architect, Hermann Tilke. Hosting an interesting mix of corners and a genuinely challenging series of fast sweepers in the first part of the lap, Austin is a track where you need a good car, but the driver can also contribute to the lap time. So, says BBC F1 technical analyst Gary Anderson, it is very hard to imagine anyone but Vettel winning – and if he does, he will break the record for consecutive wins in one season.
