IN OTHER NEWS: BMW 7-Series’ ceramic controls

Available on 5, 6 or 7 Series automobiles, the ceramic package beautifies the cabin with a handful of glossy black ceramic pieces – the fine bezel around the crown of the iDrive controller, for instance, or the face of the transmission selector. The glazed pieces are finished and fitted with a precision that would dazzle a Swiss watchmaker. It is enough to make the standard interior look, well, standard. Price: $650

Porsche Premieres Macan

Tennis player/brand ambassador Maria Sharapova attends the global introduction of the 2015 Porsche Macan at the L.A. Autoshow at Los Angeles Convention Center. Macan is an entry-level SUV that hopes to beat out rivals like Mercedes’ GLK and BMW’s X3. It’s very Porsche, sharing the side angles of a 911 and the height of a Cayenne—its front end is also very similar to its bigger brother—while repping even the Boxster a bit in the styling of its air intakes and side profile.

SUBARU’S BET

As everybody knew before the official press launch at the L.A. Auto Show, Subaru unveiled a redesigned WRX and a brand new Legacy Concept. Celebrating 25 years of Legacy, the new Concept was easily the more handsome of the two and drew more attention. The car has a very sturdy look to it. It looks firm, but it’s a bit bloated to accentuate certain curvatures. The enormous hex grille, the layered, piercing headlamps, the built in spoilerish rear lid all looks fantastic, but there’s still one thought that’s on everybody’s mind. With the WRX sitting right next to it, they’re forced to be skeptical, after seeing what the original WRX Concept was widdled down to. Everybody’s afraid the exact same thing is going to happen.

ON THE OTHER PART OF THE WORLD

Nissan is previewing a high-performance version of the Sentra with the introduction of a Nismo-flavored concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show. At the beginning of the year we heard from a Nismo representative that a lineup expansion is planned. This week Nissan and Nismo have unveiled their most important model yet, the GT-R, together with a beefier version of the Juke Nismo that has received the “RS” suffix. The duo is also showcasing at the L.A. show a more powerful version of the Sentra which packs a race-inspired exterior and a NISMO-tuned suspension.
