CAR NAME ORIGINS: AUDI

Founder August Horch knew that his name didn’t exactly have the perfect ring for a car company. Unlike many of his peers who simply put their last names on the masthead, Horch got clever. Horch means “listen” in German: the word’s Latin equivalent, “Audi” sounds much better, so Horch listened to good sense and took Audi as the name of his company.

COOL, EVEN WITHOUT ADAM!

kia-soul-the-voice_800x0w

Ever since its official launch, the Kia Soul has been one of the most active models at SEMA. Last year, Kia rolled into Las Vegas with a Soul lineup inspired by comic-book heroes, but this year, Kia prepared quite an impressive lineup of Souls with four of them drawing inspiration from the music world. This final model is the Soul “The Voice” and it was prepared by NBC as a tribute to the famous TV show. According to its creator, this Soul “represents the sheer talent needed to perform in front of a live audience and millions at home.” This model features a cool bright red exterior paint combined with a “The Voice logo” on the side, vinyl on the window portion and a cool “I Want You” logo illuminated in the lower grille.

SPIED: Nissan’s third-generation Murano SUV

2015-nissan-murano-spy-shots_100448045_l

The new SUV will once again ride on Nissan’s modular D platform, found in vehicles like the Altima and latest Pathfinder, and should be in showrooms late next year, as a 2015 model. This means we can expect the new Murano to make its auto show debut in the first half of next year, most likely at April’s 2014 New York Auto Show. The current Murano is getting up in years, with its design dating back to 2009. Its smaller brother, the Rogue, has just been redesigned, so clearly the time is right for the Murano to receive its own redesign. Thankfully, we’re unlikely to see a second generation of the ungainly Murano CrossCabriolet. As the latest spy shots confirm, styling of the new 2015 Murano has been clearly influenced by Nissan’s Resonance concept from earlier this year. Styled under the direction of Nissan design boss Shiro Nakamura, the Resonance’s design emphasizes an aerodynamic look that’s meant to come across as both lightweight and protective.

ku-xlarge
