FROM ROAD TO FILM

Over the years, Audi has had hundreds of Hollywood car appearances. One of the most memorable was the RSQ concept from I, Robot, which went on to inspire the R8 production car. The RSQ shared a mid-engine layout and some of the same styling elements with the R8, but for the most part, it was a fairly typical futuristic Hollywood concept. Audi is now making a return to the silver screen with its “Fleet Shuttle Quattro” in the recent film, Ender’s Game. Another movie to salivate over.

POLICE’S TOUGH RIDE

The Dubai Police is adding another exotic vehicle to its stable. This Brabus B63-S 700 Widestar–a tuned version of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG–has debuted at the 2013 Dubai Motor Show in police livery. With 536 horsepow…er, the G63’s 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 is already pretty potent. However, Brabus fiddled with it and was able to extract an otherworldly 700 horses. With that extra power, Brabus says the B63-S 700 Widestar will do 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 149 mph–perfect for pursuit work. Wish we have the same fleet here.

“ASTIG” HYBRID… FROM HONDA?

Despite having a huge aftermarket following, Honda has been absent in the world of manufacturer-approved performance parts. Well, that’s about to change with the Honda Performance Development (HPD). Its first project: the CR-Z hybrid. Owners of manual-transmission CR-Zs can now have Honda install a 200,000 rpm Rotrex centrifugal traction-drive supercharger mated to a Griffiths air-to-air intercooler. A respectable 57-horsepower increase is expected, bringing total horsepower to 187 ponies, while fuel consumption remains at 42 mpg. Other modifications to the CR-Z includes a performance exhaust, suspension upgrades, a wheel and tire package, and a big brake kit. Not bad for a hybrid, at all.
