We’re not entirely sure why some cars are still in production. It’s a known fact they’re not huge sellers, and yet automakers still opt to keep them in the lineup. Based on their crappy sales records, some of these cars are destined to be discontinued. So which cars were the worst sellers of 2013? Autoblog added up all the numbers and came up with a list of 10 models that collected more dust than dollars sitting in showrooms. In descending order, the worst sellers were the Cadillac Escalade EXT (1,972 sold), Volvo S80 (1,935), VW Golf R (1,598), Subaru Tribeca (1,598), Volvo C30 (1,361), Jaguar XK (1,346), Nissan GT-R (1,236), Mitsubishi i-MiEV (1,029), Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback (682), and the Acura ZDX (361). Nissan has big electric-car ambitions, and it’s no secret that they go well beyond the automaker’s Leaf hatchback. Part of those ambitions still involve a flamboyant, all-electric sports car in the near future. “More, we want to express the sportier, exciting part of EVs,” explained the automaker’s global design chief Shiro Nakamura. “And in doing that, there are two new design directions for Nissan electric vehicles—one, for a cheap city commuter type unique EV; the other for a sportier, more exciting EV with unique technology…and of course we’ll have Leaf in the middle.”

McLaren is allegedly working on a more powerful and lighter version of the 12C to better compete with Ferrari’s new 458 Speciale. Planned to come out later this year, the hardcore 12C is tipped to be quicker than the 458 Speciale and will make use of an improved version of the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with an output estimated at 650 HP (478 kW). It will utilize the same carbon fiber MonoCell as the regular 12C and will be offered as standard with carbon-ceramic brakes.

Back in 2013, BMW and Toyota signed an agreement that was supposed to bring only good things for both parties: a new supercar, improved hybrid-technologies and better cars. Well, the bad news is that this agreement will not affect the next-generation Supra, as it will remain an in-house-developed sports car. What Toyota will do however will be to help BMW develop the next-generation Z4. The consensus believes that BMW will design and build the body of the next Z4. using lots of carbon-fiber and aluminum, while Toyota will offer its next-generation plug-in hybrid technology to the sports car.
