Geely Motor Philippines is introducing its latest hybrid vehicle technology in the Philippine market, positioning its new powertrain as a solution to address rising fuel cost and range anxiety among Filipino motorists.
Geely’s latest plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system was developed without relying on modified internal combustion platforms, allowing optimized efficiency, higher level of performance and practicality.
A New Benchmark in Powertrain Engineering
At the core of Geely’s advancements is its EM-i Super Hybrid technology. This system features a hybrid-specific engine that achieves a world-leading thermal efficiency of 46.5 percent, a figure the company says currently leads all mass-produced engines globally.
Geely has refined the combustion that allows the system to extract more usable energy from fuel, resulting in lower consumption and reduced emissions compared to conventional hybrid powertrains.
Record-Breaking Range and Efficiency
Even when operating in hybrid mode, Geely’s integrated 11-in-1 E-DHT system delivers a combined fuel consumption of 2.4 L/100 km under the WLTP cycle, demonstrating exceptional real-world efficiency. In battery-depleted conditions, the system is engineered to maintain fuel consumption at approximately 4.3 L/100 km, ensuring consistent performance and efficiency across varying driving scenarios. This optimized energy management enables the platform to achieve a total driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometers on a single full tank and charge.
This efficiency is supported by an ultra-low 0.288 drag coefficient, while a rapid-fire charging system can juice the battery from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.
Intelligence and Resilience
Geely’s technology actively manages energy distribution based on real-world driving patterns. The system includes redundant backups, ensuring that if one power source encounters an issue, the vehicle can still maintain high-speed operation and reach its destination safely.
Geely’s technology has also made hybrid and PHEVs resilient. Designed for tropical environments, the system incorporates Short Blade LFP battery technology, which the brand said has been tested for resistance to extreme heat, water exposure, including seawater immersion-conditions commonly encountered during the Philippine monsoon season.
